Leadership Incubator

The Marring Leadership Incubator nurtures confident cultural educators and community leaders with sustainable careers by connecting young Aboriginal people to their cultural identify and pride.

Our Approach

The Marring Leadership Incubator is our flagship program for developing the next generation of Aboriginal cultural educators and community leaders. Designed and led by Aboriginal cultural leaders, the Incubator guides emerging leaders through a structured journey of identity restoration, cultural knowledge, professional skill-building, and mentorship.

Everything participants experience begins on Country and carries the cultural authority of those who have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years.

What We Do

We form emerging Aboriginal leaders

Our a 12-week immersive program is grounded in cultural identity, storytelling, Country, and professional responsibility.

We deliver structured formation

Participants move through five modules – Connection, Story, Country, Roles and Responsibility, and Leadership – with the support of senior mentors and real-world delivery experience alongside experienced trainers.

We create sustainable employment pathways

Graduates transition into paid roles as assistant cultural Educators within Gadhungal Marring's Learning and Leadership business unit, continuing to grow under 12 months of mentorship.

We build skilled Aboriginal cultural educators

Our growing network of cultural educators are capable of delivering language and cultural programs in schools, communities, and partner organisations across the region.

Who We Work With

The Incubator is designed for young Aboriginal people wanting to connect with their identify but have not yet had a pathway. Participants come from communities where connection to culture, language, and identity has been disrupted by the impacts of colonisation.

Philanthropic partners and aligned organisations are invited to support the Incubator, investing in a program that is Indigenous-led, evidence-informed, and designed to produce lasting community impact. Every contribution directly funds participant wages, cultural formation, mentorship, and the on-Country experiences that make this work real.

The opportunity

Research consistently shows that connection to culture, Country, and community is one of the strongest protective factors for social, emotional, and educational wellbeing among Aboriginal young people. Yet too many programs designed to support this connection have failed: externally designed, deficit-focused, short-term, and disconnected from the communities they aim to serve.

The Marring Leadership Incubator responds directly to those failures. It is community-owned, strengths-based, and built on a framework that has already demonstrated measurable outcomes across 271 participants nationally, including:

  • 87% increase in confidence and self-belief
  • 84% stronger cultural identity and connection
  • 89% improved wellbeing outcomes
  • 85% positive shift across all key indicators

This is not job readiness. It is identity readiness. And identity, once restored, strengthens families, communities, and generations.

If you are looking to invest in something that creates lasting change for Aboriginal communities, that is Indigenous-led, evidence-based, and built to grow, this is where that conversation begins. Contact Marring to discuss philanthropic partnership, co-investment, or program sponsorship.

TESTIMONIAL

"Five years ago, I could not introduce myself properly. Now I stand in front of thousands and speak for my people with pride."
– Robert McLeod, Senior Cultural Leader, Marring

Robert McLeod joined Marring as a young man who could not introduce himself, his Country, or his people with confidence. Five years later, he stands before thousands and speaks for the Dharrawal people with clarity, cultural authority, and pride. His journey through the Buwindyala framework illustrates what becomes possible when emerging leaders are given a genuine pathway: from hesitant participant to Senior Member of the Marring team, from uncertain identity to embodied cultural leadership.
